Rap artist Nelly is in trouble and he needs your help. A report by TMZ states that the ‘Hot in Herre’ rapper has been hit by an IRS tax lien which states that he owes $2,412,283 in federal taxes. He also owes $149,511 in state taxes.
In order to pay off these high sums of money, Nelly is asking the listeners out there to stream his music. Unfortunately for Nelly, he’s going to need a lot of streams. Spotify recently clarified just how much artists make every time you stream one of their tracks and the number amounts to somewhere between $0.0006 and $0.00084. That means that you will need to stream ‘Country Grammar’ nearly 300,000,000 times to help put a dent in his tax troubles.
Nelly, who once collaborated with country artist Tim McGraw, has three Grammy award wins and used was the go-to rapper for a club hit in the early 2000’s, needs us now. Let’s all get to a Spotify near us and do our part. It’s the least we can do for the man who provided the soundtrack for middle-school dances across the country.
