The sequel to 2001’s surprise hit comedy Super Troopers just got a lot more promising. Broken Lizard, the team behind the original comedy, has announced that veteran actor Rob Lowe will be featured in the highly-anticipated sequel.
Lowe will be playing Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player and current mayor of a Canadian border town. Although it hasn’t been explicitly stated, Lowe’s character will most likely be the antagonist to our bumbling cop heroes.
Super Troopers 2 was famously crowd-funded last year. They initially asked for $2 million but people were so excited about a sequel to the 2001 film, they ended up receiving nearly $5 million in donations. The sequel will again feature the same main cast from the first film. Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanse will all reprise their roles as Vermont state troopers.
While the Broken Lizard team has made a few films since Super Troopers (Beerfest, Club Dread, The Slammin’ Salmon) none have been able to top their first and most original installment. Hopefully, this sequel will be a worthwhile filmmaking experience. With Lowe on board, it’s already off to a good start.
